The Evergreen Cultural Centre in
Coquitlam, British Columbia includes a 250 studio
theatre, shown here, and museum space. A second 600
seat auditorium is anticipated in the next few years.
This room
represents a triumph of economical acoustic design.
Rather than apply an expensive interior skin to the
structure, we simply changed the type of structure,
allowing a single building element to do the job of
two. A common building material, split face concrete
block, is put to work providing acoustic diffusion,
acoustic warmth and noise isolation.
Ventilation
noise in the auditorium is virtually inaudible,
despite the use of cost saving roof top ventilation
equipment. Flexible acoustics allow the room to play
to a wide variety of music, dance and theatre.
The
building was opened in October 1996 and has been
widely praised by performers and patrons
...the
more we play, the better it sounds..
