Revitalizing a Brutalist icon.
The University of Toronto Robarts Library, a Brutalist landmark, underwent a renovation of its Reading Room. This transformation converted the existing Reading Rooms into a serene study area with private consultation rooms for collaboration. The spacious double-height room is an open learning space, with a room acoustic design that incorporates high-performance perforated wood and metal acoustic paneling. This design not only meets performance targets but also complements the library’s existing architecture. Working with Superkül, Aercoustics’ services were instrumental in creating a comfortable environment that allows for simultaneous use of quiet study areas and collaborative spaces, catering to the needs of today’s students.
